This translation presents a Portuguese version of the first chapter of Handbuch Audiovisuelle Translation, a handbook on audiovisual translation (AVT) in German, published in 2024 by Frank & Timme. The authors of the chapter, Marco Agnetta and Alexander Künzli, are professors, whose research focuses on Semiotics and Subtitling Studies, respectively. The translated text is divided into four parts and includes a series of terms in English and Spanish to discuss different approaches to AVT over the years. The translation is preceded by an introduction that contextualizes the interrelation between Translation Studies and Film and Audiovisual Studies and comments on the challenges to this translation.
