A exibição de filmes na Índia entre os anos 1920 e 1940

Abstract

O artigo aborda as salas de cinema na Índia em dois momentos: os anos 1920 e os anos 1940, tendo como foco a experiência dos espectadores nestes espaços, e usando como fonte entrevistas e cartas de leitores daquela época, retiradas da revista de cinema indiana Filmindia e do relatório governamental de 1928. O artigo mostra os desconfortos dos espectadores, os problemas enfrentados pelos exibidores, as diferenças entre salas de cinema para filmes nacionais e internacionais e a tentativa de segregar os espaços e adequá-los às normas sociais. Descreve-se brevemente a arquitetura das salas de cinema.

Emília Teles da Silva é designer, graduada pela Escola Superior de Desenho Industrial da UERJ, com mestrado em Artes Visuais pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro e doutora pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Comunicação da Universidade Federal Fluminense.
