Abstract

This text is the result of a collective effort by scholars in the fields of cinema and audiovisual studies who conduct research, teach, and train new professionals in undergraduate and graduate programs at Brazilian and international universities. This document brings together researchers who are members of the CNPq Research Group “Impacts of Streaming on Brazilian Audiovisual” and of the Thematic Seminar of the Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos do Cinema e do Audiovisual (Socine), “Policies, Economies, and Cultures of Cinema and Audiovisual in Brazil,” whose publications and reflections are widely recognized, as well as other scholars likewise concerned with the limitations of the issues at stake, the lack of reliable criteria and diagnoses, and the absence of justification and grounding in data and in knowledge of the Latin American context of the debate that has emerged. Our intention is to foster an ongoing conceptual and political debate that does not come to an end with the regulation of VOD. We believe this to be a living and enduring discussion, open to continuous evaluation and revision.
