This review analyzes the book Diplomacia Cultural e o Cinema Brasileiro by Manuela Fetter Nicoletti (2022), which explores the relationship between Brazilian cinema, its international presence, and cultural diplomacy as an instrument of foreign policy. The author establishes a dialogue between the fields of International Relations and Cinema and Audiovisual Studies, incorporating classical and critical theoretical references from both areas. The review highlights the relevance of Nicoletti’s professional and empirical background, which contributes to an analytical approach to the internationalization of Brazilian cinema and the challenges posed by globalization, new distribution models, and changes in public cultural policies. The book is considered a significant contribution to studies on cultural diplomacy and foreign cultural policy, standing out for its multidisciplinary nature and solid theoretical framework. It is also regarded as a catalyst for future research that bridges these academic fields. At the end of this review, we offer a couple of questions to further increase the multidisciplinary field of study between International Relations and Cinema, and also to explore other political topics in the process of revisioning public policies regarding the distribution of national cinema and its production in Brazil.
