Resumo

Buffering, ou seja, a necessidade de pré-carregar dados antes de transmitir um arquivo de vídeo ou áudio, resume as rupturas e interrupções frequentemente ignoradas do engajamento digital. Considerando que o buffer é frequentemente lido como “ruído” ou como um incômodo técnico aguardando uma solução, um olhar mais atento pode nos levar a desafiar nossa noção de mediação, imersão e controle. Ao contextualizar o estudo do buffering dentro de uma rica história de ruído espectatorial e sonoro, este artigo explora a “ansiedade perpétua” única que ele invoca e expõe, bem como a tensão entre prazer e dor incorporada ao reconhecer as imperfeições de uma tecnologia supostamente contínua e utópica.
